Wise words, and I agree we need to guard against tyranny. This is why we have a democracy and why it is so important to exercise and guard our democratic rights.
But I don't see that offering healthcare to all citizens requires anyone to lay down any of their rights. It is simply a decision we make as a society that everyone have access to healthcare. Other democracies around the world have done this and not created tyrannies. Many laws and institutions in our country are created in the name of fairness to all and we all benefit from them (Social Security, Medicare, Libraries...) For me making healthcare available to all citizens is a similar change whose time has come.
But to quote C.S. Lewis - "Reasoning is never, like poetry, judged from the outside at all." We probably won't convince each other of our reasoning, and should agree to disagree. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
